Statistics show that many criminal defendants have underlying mental health issues. With decreased public access to mental health evaluation and care, Behavioral Health Court was established by Judge Peter J. Garcia to offer a safety net in the criminal justice system for persons who would benefit from access to such care. Case Managers, counselors and treatment are meshed with adjudication by the Court to return individuals to healthier environments and access to care.
